The glass shattered two years ago
when it dropped on the tile floor.
a spiderweb pattern spreads across the top left corner,
cutting right through his contact picture.
the phone still works fine.
I swipe over the sharp edges every day,
feeling the small pricks against my thumb,
reminding myself
that just because something still functions
doesn’t mean it isn’t broken.
