INNOVATIONS

During the EMP Competition 2020-2021 last year, Abdul Aleem from Class 8P had made an air purifier for EMP which would make the air cleaner, greener, and healthier for Dipsites to breathe in a closed room. It is also cost-effective.

How does it work?

HEPA filter, fan, activated charcoal and other filters helps for filtering the dust particles and pathogens in the air. He has also created an outer covering for the purifier using cardboard boxes and foamboards. The fan takes in the air from the surroundings and the filter present in the purifier will filter the air. The air will go through the fiberglass filter, which filters big and medium-sized dust particles, yellow filter, which filters pollen and other smaller dust particles. Then it goes through the Activated Carbon Filter, which de-odorizes the air and further purifies it. And finally it passes through the main filter, a.k.a.: The HEPA filter, which filters almost all particles 0.3 microns and higher, including almost 99% of bacteria and a considerable number of viruses as well.

This Project will help to purify the air in a closed space like a classroom, which helps in situations like this pandemic.

In this way, he has successfully created a sustainable air purifier which is cost-effective.

An ingenious device which helps to maintain social distancing.

Covid-19 can spread easily among people who are in close contact for a prolonged period. Hence, keeping distance with others, i.e., social distancing, is an extremely effective method in combating this virus. However, it is difficult to maintain social distancing all the time, especially among students. He has constructed a device that can ensure that the students and staff in our school will be able to follow the social distancing regulations with ease. Students can hang the device onto their school belt and carry it around the school.

The materials used include, Arduino nano, Breadboard, Jumper wires, buzzers, etc. This project will ensure that all students maintain social distancing by ringing an alarm when another student is within 3 meters of them.

This will not only reduce the widespread of Covid 19 in UAE, but also keep DPS Sharjah Covid free and keep everyone in the school safe.

“Little Precautions save lives.” The Gas Leakage Detector-

A wonderful gizmo that alerts the user when the LPG/CNG gas leaks. This could potentially stop millions of fatalities and deaths worldwide.

Inspiration for the Project:

LPG gas in homes may leak at any moment, causing fires and explosions, most of the time, this goes on without the knowledge of the people nearby, causing deaths and fatalities.

This is how he decided to find some solutions to protect the lives of every living creature in this world. The name of his project is Gas Leakage Detector.

Materials used by him include Arduino Uno, MQ2 gas sensor, Potentiometer, LCD 20×4 and LED. MQ2 gas sensor is an electronic sensor used for sensing the concentration of gases in the air such as LPG, propane, methane, hydrogen, alcohol, smoke, and carbon monoxide.

Concentrations of gas is measured using a voltage divider network present in the sensor. It can detect gases in the concentration of range 200 to 10000ppm.

Working of the Project:

First, we need to calibrate the sensor with a laptop or a power bank. Once the calibration is done, he takes a gas lighter and release the gas at the face of the sensor. Once the gas is released, we can see on the LCD module, the concentration of different gases like LPG, smoke, and carbon monoxide. The moment the gas leaks, we get an alarm in our mobile or any part of the house to take necessary precautions.
