Article Runner Up – Finding hope in a hopeless world – Hannah Abraham 10G

The current pandemic has brought the world to a standstill! Schools and workplaces have all been shut down. People everywhere are afraid. A tiny virus has managed to scare the worldinto a hiding place.  But what if it is not all as bad as it seems?

My grandmother once said, “Look for the positive in every negative”. So, I began to ponder what the positive side of the COVID-19 Pandemic could be. I realizedthat this was the way by which nature lets us heal ourselves. Sometimes the best you can do to heal yourself of all your worries and anxieties, is to be byyourself, …giving yourself some space from all the hustle and bustle of life,to find peace and serenity in solitude.

Ever since quarantine began, peoplewere forced to come up with creative things to do. Theycame up with new ideas to escape the monotony of being in lockdown. My mother started baking buns and breads when the bakeries shut down. People have taken up new hobbies like vlogging, gardening to name a few.

The recent pandemic has also proven the compassion we have for our fellow beings. Regardless of race or culturewe feel pain and empathy towards those going through these difficult times. Doctors and nurses risk their lives daily for the protection of others. People from different backgrounds have come together on common ground to help each other. It is through trying times that we see the love and compassion in people.

“Hope is the only thing stronger than fear”, wisely said by Robert Ludlum. So, put a smile on, look on the bright side and don’t lose hope.
